Applying for positions within Austrade
Eligibility
If you are identified as the preferred candidate, your engagement will be conditional upon your meeting a number of pre-employment checks, including Australian citizenship, Health and Security Clearance/background checks.
Austrade is part of the Australian Public Service. Vacancies are open to Australian citizens only. Applications from people who have permanent resident status and are already booked for their citizenship ceremony within 3 months of the closing date for applications may be accepted, however will not be able to be employed until citizenship has been granted. In this circumstance an applicant should contact the recruitment manager via recruitment@austrade.gov.au seeking permission to apply.
Advertising vacancies
Austrade advertises each vacancy in the Australian Public Service Gazette and through other media such as online job boards (Seek, MyCareer) and relevant newspapers.
How to apply
Austrade prefers to receive applications via the Online Recruitment System. The application process requires you to complete an application form online and submit a resume for each role of interest. You are also required to provide a response to the Selection Criteria (See "Selection Criteria Response").
The vacancy listing for each role contains the following documentation:
- A Job Description titled "Duties and Selection Criteria" – provides context of the role, responsibilities and selection criteria
- "Information for Applicants" – provides further information and Contact Officer details for any further queries relating to the specific role.

Progress of Applications/Feedback
You will be advised the progress and outcome of your application at each stage of the selection process. However we do not provide detailed feedback to candidates not selected to progress to interview.
Applications for employment should be submitted only in response to an advertised vacancy. Austrade does not accept unsolicited resumes.
