Australian businesses invited to high-level US investment summit

Australian businesses, entrepreneurs and advisers can learn more about opportunities in the United States at the SelectUSA 2013 Investment Summit, a high-level gathering hosted by the US Department of Commerce and others.
The summit, to be held in Washington, DC, is part of a US government initiative to promote direct investment there. The event is hosted by the US Department of Commerce, the International Trade Administration and SelectUSA.
Headline speakers are US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, US Secretary of State John Kerry, US Treasury Secretary Jack Lew and US Trade Representative Michael Froman. Other speakers include BlackRock Chief Executive Larry Fink, Dow Chemical Chief Executive Andrew Liveris and Walmart Chief Executive Bill Simon.
The Australian Trade Commission’s (Austrade) investment team will attend the summit. The US-based Austrade team can assist Australian businesses with further information and, where appropriate, introductions.
The two-day SelectUSA Summit starts on 31 Oct. However, the registration deadline is 30 September 2013.

OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises
Multinational Enterprises should be aware of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises that provide voluntary principles and standards for responsible business behaviour in a variety of areas, consistent with applicable domestic laws. Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative
The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is a voluntary mechanism which promotes and supports improved governance in resource-rich countries through the full publication and verification of company payments and government revenues from oil, gas, and mining.
The EITI is supported by governments, industry, and non-government organisations around the world. The Australian Government supports the EITI and encourages Australian companies operating internationally to comply with its recommendations.
Bilateral agreements
Australia has social security agreements with several countries that address the issue of 'double super coverage' for employees sent to work overseas. To take advantage of these agreements, Australian employers sending employees overseas to work must apply to the Tax Office for a Certificate of coverage.
