Australian companies honoured for China business growth

18 Jul 2013

Six Australian companies were honoured at the AustCham Westpac Australia-China Business Awards for their contributions through their goods and services to the growth of commercial ties between the two countries.

The Australian Chambers of Commerce in Greater China and Westpac Banking Corporation named the winners and presented the annual awards recently in Beijing.

“As Australian business leaders, we have a remarkable connection with Asia, and opportunity to be part of the Asian century,” Westpac Chief Executive Gail Kelly said.

This year, the Australia-China Business Awards (ACBA) included a Special Recognition Award, which went to the Argyle Hotel Group. Australia-based Argyle has been in China since 2005 and has US$2.8 billion worth of assets under management. It has 11 hotels in the China group and openings over the next several years will bring the portfolio there to nearly 40.

“It is humbling to be honoured with such an award from our peers,” Argyle Chief Executive Kevin Zhang said, on receiving the award from Mrs Kelly.

The ACBAs were first established 20 years ago to recognise the diverse Australian business interests entering Greater China. The awards recognise projects and partnerships at the forefront of the Australia-China commercial relationship.

The Australian Trade Commission is a sponsor of the event.
