Austrade hosts ASEAN automotive reps at Auto Week
02 Apr 2013
The Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) has accompanied representatives of 10 companies and organisations in Southeast Asia to the Australian Automotive Week (AAW) in Melbourne.
Visitors from companies and organisations in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand attended the week’s activities and met with Australian suppliers of vehicle components, research agencies and representatives of other aspects of the automotive industry.
Most of the buyers in the group had qualified opportunities to pursue with Australian suppliers to the vehicle industry as part of Austrade’s ASEAN Automotive Supply Chain Initiative. The initiative covers countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) but mainly focuses on the high-growth automotive markets of Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Austrade’s ASEAN Automotive Supply Chain Initiative aims to integrate Australian capabilities in the design and manufacture of components, research, testing and training with ASEAN automotive supply chains.
As part of the initiative, Austrade organised activities for the visitors, including a seminar on automotive opportunities and negotiations on technology-transfer arrangements and joint ventures with the Asian-based buyers.
