Austrade media release12 December 2005 A book that makes sense out of the complexities of international trade will be launched in Sydney on Monday, 19 December (details below).
The book titled ‘Beyond Our Shores’ is a collection of essays on Australia and the global economy authored by Austrade’s Chief Economist Tim Harcourt. Austrade is the Australian Government’s export promotion agency.
Well known Australian identities will help launch the book including model/actor Kate Fischer, her sister, Public Relations Consultant, Penny Fischer and mother Australia’s Federal Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Pru Goward.
Mr Harcourt said his connections with Kate Fischer and Pru Goward began when he was Kate and Penny’s babysitter, however his enduring friendship with the family has led to the collaboration for the launch of his book.
“The book covers topics such as Women in Export which is a growing sector in Australia. Pru Goward has been a strong supporter, getting involved in community awareness campaigns to highlight the value of exports to women in business and encourage them to take up opportunities to export their goods and services,” Mr Harcourt said.
“In addition, the book covers topics such as globalisation, advances in technologies and difficult times in international trade caused by events such as terrorism and SARS. It also looks at the rise of China and India in Asia, the enlargement of the European Union, stronger integration in The Americas, and the emergence trade ties with several developing economies.
“For those that like big occasions, there’s also a chapter on special events, such as the Olympic Games, the Rugby World Cup 2003 and the Oscars,” he said.
