Austrade will boost export opportunities for Australian ICT businesses participating in CeBIT Australia by bringing international buyers and hosting a range of special  events at the region’s largest trade event this week (20-22 May).


Austrade business development mangers will accompany 30 visitors from Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, New Zealand and PNG seeking to source innovative Australian technologies and solutions for international markets.


Austrade’s National Industry Manager - ICT, Peter Harrison said that the prospects continue to look good for Australian ICT companies in the global market place.


“Global ICT spending is predicted to increase in 2008 providing local businesses with opportunities to export their skills and innovation in key areas such as financial services IT, eGovernment, telecommunications, eLearning and homeland security and defence<" Mr Harrison said.


“With South East Asian economies becoming increasingly sophisticated in their infrastructure requirements,  there are significant new opportunities for Australian firms, particularly in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. India’s $18.5 million ICT market also offers lucrative partnership opportunities for innovative Australian businesses.


“Australia’s ICT industry is one the fastest growing and innovative sectors in the economy."


Exhibitions such as CeBIT Australia creating new prospects for local ICT businesses and build upon the $5.7 billion worth of ICT products and services Australian exported in 2006-07.


“ICT businesses attending the event will be able to promote their technologies, meet international investors and resellers and identify new overseas markets all under one roof,” Mr Harrison said.


This year, nearly 40 small to medium ICT companies will exhibit at Export Alley, a joint initiative between Austrade and CeBIT.


Mr Harrison said, “Export Alley is an excellent source of contacts for innovative companies with technologies ready for international markets. It offers low cost exhibit options for small ICT companies targeting international buyers.”

 

“Austrade will also help Australian businesses attending CeBIT to identify and develop export and investment opportunities overseas, network with international customers and provide advice on export financing,” he said.


During the trade show, Austrade will also host the Export Alley Seminar Series to highlight current opportunities in major overseas markets such as China, India, the US and Europe.

The seminars will include updates on global technology trends and opportunities, market entry strategies, foreign government incentive programs and financing options available to Australian businesses.


In 2006-07, Austrade assisted 771 ICT companies to achieve export sales totalling $1.34 billion.

Austrade has a team of 70 export advisers and business development managers in over 30 cities world-wide  dedicated to help ICT businesses by providing export coaching, developing market entry plans, sourcing new tenders, building buyer networks, and pursuing specific business opportunities.


Last year, CeBIT Australia attracted over 730 local and international exhibitors and 33,000 business visitors.
