Australia’s clean technology skills on show in Canada

Austrade media release

26 March 2010

Austrade is raising the profile of Australia’s clean technology capabilities in Canada by organising Australia’s first national pavilion at North America’s largest environmental trade fair and conference, Globe 2010.

Stefan Trofimovs, Austrade’s Toronto-based Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner for Canada, said 10 Australian businesses are showcasing their products at the Australian Pavilion in Vancouver.

Four more businesses are also participating in Austrade organised visit programs with the support of NSW Industry and Investment.

“Held biennially since 1990, Globe 2010 presents opportunities for participants to form strategic alliances, attract investment capital, connect with industry partners & customers, and profile Australian environmental solutions & initiatives globally”, Mr Trofimovs said.

“It is recognised as a pre-eminent event in North America that attracts high calibre exhibitors and visitors from around the world, with more than 11,000 people from 71 countries attending in 2008.

“This event will help to profile Australia as a supplier of world-class clean energy and waste water solutions to delegations from North American, the European Union and Asian markets,” he said.

Mr Trofimovs said Australia has well-regarded expertise and skills around sustainable energy, water efficient buildings and management of green buildings, which is demonstrated through the participating exhibitors.

In addition to the exhibition, the conference will host more than 50 seminars led by some of the world's leading environmental authorities covering topics including climate change, carbon management and energy of the future, green infrastructure and financing the green economy.

Among these are an Austrade hosted seminar entitled ‘Access to Water: Challenges + Opportunities’,  a panel on ‘Carbon Capture and Clean Coal Technologies’ with participation by Nick Otter (CEO, Global Institute for Carbon Capture and Storage Institute in Canberra), and another discussion,  ‘Promoting the Low Carbon Economy’ with participation by the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism.

Kerry Rooney, Austrade’s Global Manager for Clean Energy and Environment, said participating in these events helps clean technology companies increase their profile and create new opportunities.

“As nations implement policies to address the challenges of climate change and energy security, trade and investment in clean technologies will play an increasingly important role in building Australia’s future prosperity,” Ms Rooney said.

“Australia has the potential to become a world leader in sustainable technologies, creating jobs for Australians in areas such as renewable energy, biofuels, green buildings, carbon capture and storage and sustainable water technologies,” she said.

The participating Australian companies are: Apricus Australia (NSW); Biofiba Ltd (NSW); Bio-Gill Environmental (NSW); City Green (NSW); EVCCO (NSW); MicroHeat Technologies (VIC); Ndevr (NSW); Offshore Weather Services (VIC); SRA Information Technology (Northern Territory) and Star Water (NSW).

Austrade has a network devoted to the Canadian market, providing extensive support for Australian exporters with specialist industry teams located in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal.
