Austrade media release
12 October 2010
Cutting edge Australian technology is being used at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, with Melbourne-based manufacturer, Ecotech Pty Ltd, winning a contract to supply air quality monitoring systems to Delhi.
The four monitoring stations, deployed to different areas of Delhi, will measure levels of toxic gases and pollutants present in the atmosphere. The data will then be used to help maintain air quality.
Ecotech, in cooperation with its business partner in India, Envirotech Pty Ltd, has a five year contract with the Delhi Pollution Control Committee. This is in addition to the wide experience the two companies already have in the Indian market. Other projects in India include IMD (Pune), IITM (Pune), UPPCB (Luckhnow), IOC (Guwahati), Jindal Steel, Raigargh and Tata Power (Mumbai).
Ecotech’s International business manager, Manoj Kumar said, “Ecotech and Envirotech have partnered in India to ensure expertise in manufacturing quality, operation, maintenance and data reporting, and reliable after sales support for customers throughout the Indian market.”
Mr Kumar believes the companies’ relationship with Austrade in India has been invaluable. He said, “Austrade has helped us with our expanding operations in India and always offers advice and insight when we need it.”
“Ecotech has hosted Australian visits from many Indian environmental scientists and diplomats as part of training courses and trade missions, including a visit by the Indian Consul General, the Honourable Anita Nayyar in May 2008,” he said.
Founded in 1976, Ecotech has exported to 50 countries, including South America and China. Ecotech has also supplied air quality monitoring systems to both the Victorian and New South Wales governments.
A total of 47 Australian companies are delivering on contracts worth over $83 million for the Commonwealth Games. These companies are providing a range of services such as pyrotechnics, design of Games venues, IT consultancy, logistics and coordination of the Queens Baton Relay, security and broadcasting.
There is an opportunity for further growth, with India preparing for other major sporting events like the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and the 2011 Formula One.
Business Club Australia (BCA) is the Australian Government’s official business networking program at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. It is a platform for boosting business connections against the backdrop of the Games.
Austrade’s Delhi-based Senior Trade Commissioner, Peter Linford said, “Business Club Australia is Austrade’s business networking program based around major international sporting events - and this year it’s the Commonwealth Games.
“There will be 22 events over 11 days, giving businesses like Ecotech the chance to link with other operators in India and use this opportunity to raise their market profile,” Mr Linford said.
“India is one of Australia’s fastest growing trading partners. In 2009 two-way trade between India and Australia was worth A$20.87 billion,” he said.
Ecotech Pty Ltd is participating in BCA Delhi and was also a part of BCA Beijing, during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The introduction of Australian suppliers to international games and events has combined the efforts of Austrade, Industry Capability Network (ICN) and the Australian International Sporting Events Secretariat (AISES). This initiative has the support of the Australian Government’s Supplier Access to Major Projects (SAMP) program and the state governments of Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
