Pivot Maritime International honoured for exporting success
Austrade media release
1 December 2010
Pivot Maritime International, a maritime simulation and training consultancy, has been honoured for its exporting achievements at the 48th Australian Export Awards Ceremony, held tonight in Sydney.
Pivot Maritime won the Small to Medium Services Award, sponsored by the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation. This is the second year in a row that Pivot Maritime has won this award.
Pivot Maritime produces maritime simulators for commercial shipping, recreational boating and defence. But unlike its competitors, Pivot is also a simulator user, employing its own simulators in its training, consultancy and research services, and working in close partnership with strategic clients to assist them in making optimal use of their simulators.
The simulators, which range from small speedboat simulators to full mission bridge simulators, are designed for optimum affordability and flexibility to meet the changing needs of Pivot's key markets. Used to train a wide range of seafarers and defence personnel, the simulators are also used for top-end port research and development work to guide the redesign of existing ports or the creation of new ones, and to monitor and improve operational efficiency.
One of the country's longest-running and most prestigious business award programs, the Australian Export Awards celebrates Australia's best exporters, commending them for their achievements and commitment. The Australian Export Awards are co-presented by the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Sally-Ann Watts, Austrade's State Manager for Tasmania, said that Pivot Maritime was an excellent example of a Tasmanian company representing its state internationally.
"Pivot Maritime has made a significant contribution, not just to its community, but also to the national prosperity," Ms Watts said.
"The company represents what is best about Australian business – dynamic, resourceful and determined to succeed in international business.
"Following a significant capital investment in software development, Pivot Maritime has seen a substantial increase in both revenue and staffing levels, as well as a move into new markets," Ms Watts said.
In the last three years, Pivot has broadened its market, entering the minerals sector in partnership with a number of clients. Pivot's services focus on helping port authorities and various engineering businesses use simulation to redesign existing ports or build new ones in response to the sector's dramatic rise in transport needs.
This strategy has resulted in securing Pivot's reputation in the minerals sector as producers of highly innovative solutions, as well as dramatically increasing revenue and the company's mix of products and services.
