Australia’s natural health and beauty industry shines in Hong Kong

Some of Australia’s most sought-after cosmetic and natural health products are on show at Cosmoprof Asia 2011, the region’s premier industry event.
Australian exhibitors are displaying products ranging from dietary supplements to perfumes and skin creams. The Australian Trade Commission, Austrade, is also on hand at Cosmoprof to provide information and assistance.
Parliamentary Secretary for Trade Justine Elliot visited the Australian Pavilions this week, saying the industry had earned its reputation as a trusted supplier to the growing market for safe, chemical-free products.
"Australia’s distinctive flora, pristine natural environment and healthy, outdoor lifestyle provide a rich store of raw ingredients and inspiration for our beauty and natural health professionals," Ms Elliot said.
"The making of cosmetics, perfume and toiletries, for example, now employs over 4000 Australian workers and generates around A$1 billion for the economy, A$463 million of that in exports.
"Australia’s natural health industry is also thriving, with exports of vitamins alone reaching A$84 million in 2010, a 14 per cent increase on the previous year."
During her visit to Hong Kong, Ms Elliot also launched the Australian Cosmetics and Australian Natural Health and Wellness 2011 directory.
Ms Elliot said the directory underlined the strength of an industry that has become a trusted supplier to the growing market for safe, chemical-free products.
The Cosmetics and Natural Health and Wellness directory, now in its seventh year and published again by Starkey Smith Media Group, will be distributed by Austrade at Cosmoprof and other trade fairs.
Along with its associated websites, it is designed to facilitate the export of Australian products by acting as a business matching tool, as well as a resource for buyers and distributors.
