Queensland companies honoured for export success
Austrade media release
28 November 2012
Four Queensland firms won accolades including the Prime Minister’s Exporter of the Year Award at last night’s 50th Australian Export Awards, hosted in Canberra by Trade and Competitiveness Minister Craig Emerson.
Austrade’s State Director for Queensland, Cheryl Stanilewicz, said the state’s strong showing at the awards confirmed its ability to compete and succeed internationally.
“Each of these companies has made a significant contribution to national prosperity as well as to their local community,” Ms Stanilewicz said.
“They represent the best qualities of Australian exporters: innovation, dynamism and determination to succeed in international business.”
The Australian Export Awards program is co-presented by the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the program, making it one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious business awards.
The winning Queensland companies were:
PWR Performance Products, which won the Small to Medium Manufacturer Award and the Prime Minister’s Australian Exporter of the Year Award
PWR Performance Products manufactures premium products for high performance motor vehicles in the elite racing market. The range includes light-weight radiators, oil coolers and intercoolers. PWR grew its export sales by 33 per cent in 2011-12. Over 50 per cent of Formula 1 teams and around 90 per cent of NASCAR teams now use PWR cooling solutions.
The company has recently secured new contracts with Porsche, Pagani, Gibbs Sports Technology, Magnusan and Jaguar-Williams, and continues to supply retrofit cooling solutions to US military vehicles.
The Small to Medium Manufacturer Award is sponsored by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, which has been associated with the Australian Export Awards for 25 years.
Australian Agricultural Company won the Agribusiness Award
Australian Agricultural Company’s (AACo) Beef Division produces seven brands of boxed grass-fed, grain-fed and wagyu beef for export to 22 countries. Exports to Korea, Japan and North America underpin AACo’s international success as AACo develops new opportunities in growth and emerging markets around the world, resulting in a greater presence in China, Europe, Malaysia, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Taiwan.
Browns English Language School won the Education and Training Award
Education is a business in today’s competitive world and the English language industry has become a valuable export commodity for this country. In 2011, Australia generated over $15 billion in export revenue from education.
Browns English Language School, which was established in 2004, has been particularly successful in achieving strong growth in a difficult market. The school now has 600 students studying English in campuses in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Browns draws students from many different parts of the world, and in 2011-12, opened new offices in Russia and Latin America and increased market share within key source countries such as Brazil, Japan and Korea.
Oniqua MRO Analytics won the Small to Medium Services Award
Oniqua MRO Analytics is a leading provider of Maintenance, Repairs and Operations (MRO) analytics for the global mining industry. It helps mining companies better manage equipment maintenance, spare parts inventory and supply chain performance, and is used by the world’s largest mining companies at 200 sites in 30 countries. In 2012, the company opened offices in Johannesburg and Santiago, and was awarded a million-dollar contract to support Codelco’s copper mining operations in Chile.
The Small to Medium Services Award is sponsored by Export Finance and Insurance Corporation (EFIC).
