Business Club Australia (BCA) is the Australian Government’s official business networking program around major international sporting events. The program is led by the Australian Government’s trade and investment development agency, the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade).

Since the Sydney 2000 Olympics, BCA has held 329 business networking events around the world engaging over 38,990 international business executives and senior government ministers through targeted networking events and activities. In the first seven years alone, the program facilitated over AUD$1.7 billion in international business outcomes.

The program

BCA leverages the excitement and international media attention around such events to showcase Australia as a preferred trade and investment destination, and to boost opportunities for Australian firms to build productive international business connections.

A typical BCA program is held at a dedicated venue and can include a mix of business and industry networking events, business missions, a ticketing program for corporate hospitality, an integrated marketing and media campaign, public and private partnership with high-level government and business involvement, a Roundtable Advisory Group, and endorsement from a peak sporting body.

Legacy

Created and managed by Austrade, BCA is the first program of its kind in the world. Following the program’s success over the years, BCA has been replicated by trade promotion agencies in Canada, New Zealand and Scotland.

In its tenth year, the BCA model was adopted by India for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, with the Delhi Games Organising Committee holding their first Business Club India program during the Games.

After a successful program at the Beijing Olympics, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has produced a case study on BCA to provide assistance to future Olympic bidding cities in their submission.
