Nadias were developed by naturally crossing cherries and plums, then selecting lines with desirable traits.
Australian company Cherry Royale Pty Ltd and its Korean counterpart, Nadia Limited, agreed on 20 August 2011 to establish the first commercial orchards in Anseong, south of Seoul.
A Memorandum of Understanding will see funding and resources made available to establish orchards in the area, which has a strong horticultural heritage and a reputation for pear and grape-growing.
The completion of formal agreements marks the culmination of three years’ effort.
Although the collaboration was between two receptive commercial partners, the milestone was made possible with assistance from Austrade's global network, working in collaboration with Western Australia’s trade offices in Seoul and Perth.
