Austrade resumes services in Japan
01 Apr 2011
Austrade has resumed the provision of services in Japan which were suspended in order to deliver consular services following the devastating earthquake and tsunami earlier this month.
All Austrade offices in Japan are now open. Basic services commenced in Sapporo, Fukuoka and Osaka on 28 March and services in Tokyo will resume on 4 April. The full suite of services will be made available from 11 April.
While the tragic effects of the natural disasters in Japan are still unfolding, there continues to be uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the Fukushima nuclear power plant emergency and the impact of any further aftershocks. However, Japan’s previous experience of natural disasters suggests that growth will return in the medium to long term, driven by the need for reconstruction and investment in new plant and equipment in the affected areas.
