Austrade media release28 September 2005 Austrade will host the first ever commercial Trade Mission to Ireland next week when a delegation of Canberra leading edge companies showcases the breadth of industry capability from the ACT region.
Ted Quinlan, ACT Deputy Chief Minister who is leading the Trade Mission (from 3-5 October) said the Canberra businesses travelling to Ireland were excited about the potential business opportunities in that country.
"Ireland is a new market for Canberra companies. We see it as one with huge potential because of our region's joint commitment to growing technology global companies and fostering and maximising the gains of world class research. The companies with us on this mission are a great example of local businesses making a mark in the global arena," Mr Quinlan said.
“Our regions have much to offer each other - Ireland as a base for the European market with strong global ICT and technology sectors, and Canberra as a launching pad for the Australasian market, particularly in the areas of government and business services, defence and security, ICT and biotechnology.”
Austrade’s Business Development Manager in Dublin, Sarah Jane-Larkin said the ACT Trade Mission visit would provide an ideal opportunity to network with companies and possible distributors in Ireland.
“Austrade’s Dublin office opened in January 2005 and has achieved considerable success to date. The ACT Trade Mission is the first that has been hosted by Austrade in Ireland and we’re confident the Canberra businesses involved will build on this success,” Ms Larkin said.
“These businesses have been selected specifically for their appeal in this market and we look forward to assisting them achieve results.”
