Australian water management on show in Mexico
14 Dec 2011
Australian irrigation and water management companies are set to make an impact in Mexico as the country looks for sustainable ways to meets its growing demand for quality water.
Since 2008, Austrade has worked with The Mexican National Water Commission (CONAGUA), Mexican universities, the University of Sydney, and Griffith University to promote Australian capability in the Mexican market.
Austrade’s Trade Commissioner in Mexico, Radek Divis, believes that growing recognition of Australia’s expertise in water management is creating valuable opportunities for Australian companies.
Most recently, Australia’s irrigation technology was on show in the southern Mexican State of Veracruz, as Austrade joined CONAGUA and the University of Chapingo to introduce two Australian pilot programs.
One Australian company, Rubicon Water, will operate alongside CONAGUA to enhance irrigation systems and agricultural productivity in Veracruz.
In the town of Piedras Negras, Rubicon Water has already integrated its technology with CONAGUA’s plans to modernise and rehabilitate the communities’ irrigation channels.
Austrade’s Senior Business Development Manager in Mexico, MariaElena Saint Martin said that programs like these will lead the way for companies to expand their operations in Mexico and for more Australian companies to respond to growing demand in Mexican market.
“The pilot program gives these companies the opportunity to demonstrate their capability, access new business opportunities and replicate their success throughout the market.
“By facilitating continued collaboration between Australian and Mexican businesses and research institutions, Austrade is helping Australian companies to provide innovative solutions to Mexico’s water insecurity.”
In 2012, Austrade will continue to conduct events for Australian companies looking to enter Mexico’s water management market.
