Tariffs and regulations

Ethiopia has streamlined its tariff structure. The minimum tariff rate on imports is zero while the maximum is 35 per cent. There is a weighted average tariff of 9.7 per cent. The number of tariff bands was reduced from over 30 to 5 as part of government trade reforms. There are no quantitative import restrictions nor import quotas, however strict foreign exchange control regimes administered by the National Bank of Ethiopia may deter imports. Customs administration and administrative entry barriers appear to be the major non-tariff barriers affecting Ethiopia’s trade with other states.

Tariffs and duty rates are constantly revised and are subject to change without notice.

Austrade strongly recommends you reconfirm these prior to selling to Ethiopia.
