The Australian Rugby Union’s (ARU) support of Austrade’s Business Club Australia programs has assisted Australian businesses to achieve export outcomes through networking programs associated with international rugby tournaments. These have included BCA programs surrounding various Bledisloe Cup fixtures, Rugby World Cup 2007 and the ARU hosted Rugby World Cup 2003 played across Australia and attracting more than 60,000 inbound tourists.

Plans are currently underway for BCA networking opportunities associated with the New Zealand Rugby World Cup 2011.

2009 Bledisloe Cup Networking Opportunities

Austrade and the ARU have been working together in developing two Business Club Australia Bledisloe Cup 2009 business networking programs. On 21 and 22 August a Business Club Australia program surrounded the Sydney Bledisloe Cup, with the second to be implemented in Tokyo surrounding the 31 October Bledisloe Cup test match.

BCA’s ticket allocation has been exhausted for this event.

For the second time, the Bledisloe Cup series will extend to Asia with the fourth test in 2009 to be played in Tokyo, Japan on 31 October 2009. The ARU has partnered with Business Club Australia to create a program with a united “Australia Inc” approach surrounding this match.

The Australian Ambassador to Japan, Mr Murray McLean OAM, and the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) will host 500 guests of Australian organisations based in Tokyo at an evening of informal business networking against the backdrop of the historic Bledisloe Cup clash between the Qantas Wallabies and All Blacks in Tokyo.

The Bledisloe Cup pre-match networking reception is an opportunity for Australian companies to be involved in this collaboration between Austrade’s Business Club Australia and the Australian Rugby Union.

Guests will be joined at the Embassy by the Qantas Wallabies squad on their final recovery day before they meet the New Zealand All Blacks at Tokyo National Stadium to contest the forth match of the 2009 Bledisloe Cup series. This reception and match attendance on Saturday 31 October will enable new business relationships to be forged and existing ones strengthened.

Sydney Bledisloe Cup 2009

Under the Business Club Australia brandmark, Austrade partnered with Events NSW, Business Events Sydney and Industry & Investment NSW to offer Australian businesses the opportunity to host valued international customers at the Bledisloe Cup clash between the Qantas Wallabies and New Zealand All Blacks on Saturday 22 August 2009.

Guests were hosted at a pre-match networking reception overlooking Sydney's stunning Circular Quay and heard from former Wallaby Joe Roff before being transported to ANZ stadium to witness this important Bledisloe Cup clash.

A majority of participants at the BCA August 22 activities also attended a BCA ‘Life Sciences’ seminar the previous day. The initiative was conceived to increase international awareness of the Australian life sciences industry and develop international business relationships.

Business executives from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and the United States from a range of sectors participated in the BCA Bledisloe Cup 2009 program with new business relationships forged and existing ones strengthened.
