Business Club Australia Case Study

BlueScope Lysaght is helping China to deliver a ‘green’ Olympics by providing environmentally friendly and energy efficient construction solutions in preparation for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

As one of the leading building solution providers in the world, BlueScope Lysaght provided steel building systems for more than 20 sports sites for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

For the Beijing 2008 Olympics, BlueScope Lysaght China has provided 48,000 squares meters of LYSAGHT® FLEX-LOK™ and TRIMDEK® roofing systems to the Tianjin Olympics Centre, playing a crucial part in its innovative and inspiring design.  The centre will serve as one of the football venues, with a seating capacity of 60,000.

“We are so proud to be involved in the construction of Beijing’s Olympic facilities”, said Mr. Tim Lefebvre, President of BlueScope Lysaght China.

“BlueScope LYSAGHT systems and solutions make the buildings more environmentally friendly and energy efficient, which is of great importance to the Olympics organizers and perfectly matches the Beijing Olympic theme of a ‘green Olympics’.”

BlueScope Lysaght China also provided steel building systems to other Olympics facilities including the National Fencing Training Centre and National Swimming Training Centre. Other recent Olympics related work has included two stations responsible for Olympic power supply and two Olympic Extension stations.

Since the first sale of BlueScope steel products to China back in 1915, BlueScope Steel is now Australia’s largest manufacturing investor in both China and Asia.

BlueScope Lysaght China has a strong presence in the market with offices in 26 cities across China to meet the building products and solutions needs of the construction industry.

“BlueScope is a great player in this country – delivering value to the Beijing Olympics through their brilliant products and their expertise,” Austrade China Country Manager Christopher Wright said.

“I’ve been pleased to work with Bluescope Lysaght over the past two years, and I have to say, it’s a delight. They bring a world-class reputation for excellence and innovative solutions to meet the needs of their customers, be they in the sporting infrastructure area or other markets.”

BlueScope will also be making the most of the Olympic spotlight on Beijing, using Austrade’s Business Club Australia to build contacts and expand their business network in China.
