2010 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifier

The Qantas Socceroos played Japan in Tokyo on 11 February in a 2010 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualification match. 180 Australian and Japanese guests braved the icy conditions and attended a joint Business Club Australia and Football Federation Australia’s (FFA) pre-match business reception with keynote addresses from the Australian Ambassador to Japan, HE Murray McLean OAM and the Chief Executive Officer of FFA, Mr Ben Buckley.

Mrs Elizabeth Masamune PSM, Senior Trade Commissioner, Tokyo directed proceedings and Dr Greg Story, Chairman, Australian New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ANZCCJ) and Country Head Japan for NAB, made the official toast (Kanpai).
Australian companies who are active in the Japanese market and participated in this networking function include LJ Hooker, NAB, ANZ and Macquarie Capital.

One minute's silence was held prior to the match at Yokohama International Stadium in honour of those who have lost their lives during the Victoria bushfires.  FFA has generously donated $100,000 to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal and the Socceroos also donated their game match fees to the Appeal.

Over 65,000 primarily Japanese spectators were present to witness the 0-0 score with football enthusiasts now needing to wait until 17 June for the return clash in Melbourne to crown one team victory.

AAMI Victoria Derby Day

BCA offered Australian exporters the opportunity to host valued international customers at AAMI Victoria Derby Day on Saturday 1 November 2008 at Flemington racecourse.

As part of the program BCA hosted a large contingent of international and Australian businesspeople from the Biotechnology industry as well as guests from the Chilean equine industry. The guests were given the opportunity to experience the excitement of the carnival atmosphere and first-class views of the race track, while creating and enhancing international business connections.

In addition to the Derby Day 2008 program, BCA and Austrade have been working closely with the Victorian Racing Club (VRC) to implement their international business program. In 2008, the VRC has hosted business networking events in Dubai, London, Dublin, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Auckland to promote the Australian horseracing industry.

Bledisloe Cup Hong Kong 2008

Managed by Austrade, Business Club Australia (BCA) is the Australian Government's international business program at the Bledisloe Cup Hong Kong 2008.

Following on from the recent success of previous BCA programs, Australian businesses were offered the opportunity to apply for a corporate hospitality networking program to further develop their international business relationship with an international customer.

Applications were assessed in accord with BCA Evaluation and Probity Guidelines and successful applicants were awarded on their international business impact to the Australian economy.

As part of the business matching program, Australian exporting organisations attended a pre-match business networking function at the IRC, before watching the historical match between the Qantas Wallabies and the All Blacks, the first time a Bledisloe Cup has been played outside of Australia or New Zealand.
