Business Club Australia Success Stories

Meat and Livestock AssociationAustralia’s meat and livestock industry is taking part in Business Club Australia (BCA) networking events during the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

Meat and Livestock Australia, an organisation owned by over 43,500 livestock producers which provides R&D and marketing services to the industry, will be hosting a number of clients at Business Club Australia (BCA) Games events.

Glen Thompson, Meat and Livestock Australia’s Regional Manager for South East Asia and Greater China, said that the Games provide an excellent opportunity for trade members to bring together key Chinese customers in a relaxed atmosphere.

“China is an important potential major market for Australian beef and lamb,” said Mr. Thompson.

“Australian beef exports to China more than doubled in 2007 – worth in excess of $15 million – while lamb exports were worth over $33 million.”

World’s second largest exporter of red meat and livestock

Australia is the world’s second largest exporter of red meat and livestock.  “Exports represent 60 per cent of this industry’s trade, and we’re currently shipping red meat to around 120 countries across the globe,” Mr Thompson said.

“Australia’s ‘clean, green’ image and its reputation as a supplier of safe, quality red meat are the keys to Meat and Livestock Australia’s international marketing.

“We develop brand recognition for Australian red meat in our export markets and position Australian red meat so as to capitalise on our quality and versatility attributes,” Mr. Thompson said.

“We are able to supply top-end product suitable for high-end restaurants and retailers, as well as everyday product for quick service restaurant chains and retailers.”

Both domestically and abroad, Meat and Livestock Australia collaborates with the whole spectrum of the Australian red meat industry – from cattle, sheep and goat farmers to meat processors and trader-exporters – to help boost sales of Australian red meat.

Red meat products exported to China range from world class chilled beef, veal, goat and lamb to manufacture grade beef and mutton produced under what is considered to be one of the most advanced quality assurance and traceability systems in the world.
