Since 2006, a two berth port, the world’s heaviest haul rail line and a mine site with major ore processing capability have been built in the Pilbara, a remote region of Western Australia.  This has all happened in less than two years.

Fortescue is well within reach of its projected target of 45 million tonnes per annum “Mta”. The mine, rail and port operations are now at practical completion and looking to increase production to 55 Mta. FMG is planning a further increase in capacity of potentially up to 160 Mta. Thirty five large and medium steel mills in China have entered long term offtake agreements of over 10 years.

This is only the beginning of the Fortescue story.  With the largest tenement holding in the Pilbara, there is already planned expansion to open up new areas within the Chichester Ranges around Christmas Creek and Mt Lewin, extending the rail line even further into this remote outback country.
