One job leads to another – a Business Club Australia success story
Award-winning Australian design firm, Woodhead International, will be making use of Business Club Australia’s networking opportunities, business matching and corporate hospitality during the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
Woodhead has been successfully operating in China for over ten years, with major projects including Qingdao Airport, Animation City Retail in Guangzhou, the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Qingdao, Xiangshan Hilltown, Taiping Lake Resort, Shaoxing CBD, and Xuyi Eco Agri City.
The company is currently working on the Shanghai Pavilion for the 2010 Expo.
“We have completed commissions on over one hundred projects that are important to the successful growth of China’s urban and rural development,” says Mark Unger, the Managing Director of Woodhead’s China studio.
“Woodhead has been able to establish an excellent client base and a sound reputation here over many years of exciting work.
“From little things big things have grown!”
Mr. Unger said that Woodhead knows first hand the value of integrating business with major events such as the Olympics. At a networking event run by Business Club Australia during the Sydney Olympics in 2000, Woodhead principals were seated next to a number of Singapore Airlines executives and Singapore Government officials.
During the course of the evening they started talking about the SNG$160million fit-out for Singapore’s new Changi Airport Terminal 3. At the time, Woodhead had just completed the $200 million refurbishment of the Sydney International Airport for the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
Woodhead tendered for Changi T3 and won against formidable international competition, then went on to get further work from the Singapore Government, including the SNG$26 million fit-out of the Singapore National Library and subsequent work at Singapore Airport.
The company now has a large, permanent office in Singapore.
“One job leads to another,” said Mr Unger. “We received a major boost to our profile in Asia through this work in Singapore and subsequently clinched large projects in Thailand, India and Vietnam. It has also been a good reference for getting projects in China.
“I trust we are doing the Australian business reputation in Asia and China proud,” he added.
“Getting a foothold in Singapore really helped us expand in Asia and it was largely thanks to those functions run by BCA.”
To date, the Business Club Australia program has facilitated more than A$1.7 billion in business deals at 260 networking events around the world.
