Peter Allgeier is president of the Coalition of Service Industries and a former Deputy US Trade Representative and former US Ambassador to the WTO.
As president of the CSI, Dr Allgeier represents the interests of US services companies, which employ nearly 80 per cent of America’s workforce and account for three-quarters of US economic output.
In almost three decades with the Office of the US Trade Representative, he was involved with nearly every major US trade initiative since the Carter administration. Dr Allgeier negotiated with countries throughout Asia, Europe (including the former Soviet Union), the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean and also worked on multilateral negotiations in the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation and its predecessor, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.
Dr Allgeier graduated cum laude from Brown University, with an AB in international relations. He holds a Master's Degree in international relations from John Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a PhD in international economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1988 President Ronald Reagan presented him with the Presidential Distinguished Rank Award, which is the highest performance honour bestowed on career federal officials in the US.
