Deputy Prime Minister addresses the NYSE

The Australian Consul General and Austrade in New York organised a program featuring the Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer of Australia, the Hon Wayne Swan MP, at the New York Stock Exchange early last month.
It was an opportunity for the Deputy PM to update the financial services and investor community in the US on the economic and political situation in Australia.
The keynote event was the Deputy PM’s speech, where he spoke about Australia’s progress through the Global Financial Crisis, our position in Asia, our international priorities and forward reform agenda.
Over 100 people attended the event which was held on Columbus Day, 12 October, a US federal public holiday.
In addition, meetings were arranged in New York with major investment banks, fund managers and investors.
Austrade’s Senior Trade Commissioner based in New York, Gerard Seeber, said, “Australia received extensive coverage during the election process, so having a senior member of the Australian Government in New York soon after the election to promote Australia, has re-affirmed our country’s position as an important economic partner for US firms.
“The Australian message needs to be delivered as often as possible to different audiences in the financial services sector, both at the marketing and senior levels. Having the Deputy Prime Minister delivering that message ensures we reach the most senior representatives in the industry,” Mr Seeber said.
“There is increased interest within the US about Australia due to its recent economic performance. Australia also has the fourth largest pool of funds under management globally, currently valued at $1.7 trillion.” he said.
