Agent engagement is one of the five key priorities for Austrade framework for international marketing and promotion of Australian education and training. Accordingly, Austrade was represented at the Australia New Zealand Agent Workshop, the region’s largest business-to-business event for the buyers and sellers of education, work and travel, held on the Gold Coast from 13–15 April. With more than 500 delegates from 52 countries, it was a great opportunity for Austrade to meet with those at the front line of student recruitment. It also provided Austrade with a forum to update agents and institutions about the key initiatives and activities it is pursuing under its framework.
Marie Hill and Paul McElligott from Austrade’s National Education Unit were joined by Sheralyn Derrick from Austrade Milan at the ANZA Workshop. Sheralyn took part in a panel discussion about 'Cooperation between education and youth tourism industries', together with representatives of Gold Coast Tourism, Australian Tourism Export Council and English Australia. Sheralyn and Marie delivered a seminar titled 'The New Europe: Opportunities for Australian providers'. All three Austraders had meetings with agents, institutions, allied services providers and peak body representatives at the workshop. These meetings highlighted the:
- desire for agents to work more closely with Austrade
- expanding role of agents in representing non-education service providers
- scope to increase our understanding of the study tourism sector, working together with tourism marketing agencies.
