Australian schools help to shape the future of Thai education

Assumption College, a leading private school in Thailand, recently hosted a ‘Learn, Lead and Succeed’ seminar to help shape ongoing development of the country’s school education. Held on 9–10 January, the seminar was arranged with the cooperation of South Australia’s Department of Education and Child Development and Austrade.

The event was held to celebrate both the 60th anniversary of Thai-Australian bilateral relations in 2012.

Mr Simon Farbenbloom, Deputy Head of Mission of the Australian Embassy in Bangkok, delivered the opening remarks, after which five school principals from South Australia discussed a wide range of topics for government officers, executive staff and educators of leading schools across Thailand. Topics included:

  • leading changes in 21st century schools
  • learning in the 21st century
  • inquiry-based learning
  • using an international quality assurance framework for whole-school improvement.

The principals, who travelled to Thailand for the program, included Mr Kevin Tutt of Prince Alfred College; Ms Elizabeth Schneyder of Henley Beach High School; Ms Susan Hyde of the Australian Science and Mathematics School; Mr Brett Darcy of Rose Park Primary School; and Ms Anita Zocchi of Adelaide High School.

The seminar was a great stepping stone in showcasing the world-class international standard of Australia’s education system and building close ties of education cooperation between Australia and Thailand.
