18 Mar 2013
A Future Unlimited Education Exhibition in Sri Lanka has attracted more than 600 participants, held in Colombo from 23–24 February 2013. The number of Sri Lankans choosing to pursue further education in Australia is rising, with Sri Lanka among Australia’s top ten source countries for international students undertaking higher degrees in research.
During the two-day exhibition, more than 200 visitors showed interest in undergraduate studies, 180 were interested in postgraduate studies and 200 students were interested in vocational training (VET) courses. Significant numbers of students were seeking study opportunities in the areas of arts and humanities, business and management, IT and engineering and medical sciences.
The Australia Future Unlimited Education Exhibition 2013 was organised by Austrade with the support of the Australian High Commission and partners Australian Education International (AEI) and Perth Education City. It provided an opportunity for some 30 participating institutions to showcase Australian education opportunities to potential students, ranging from undergraduate and vocational programs to postgraduate master’s, research and doctorate programs.
At the event, Australian High Commissioner Robyn Mudie emphasised the extensive bilateral relationship between Australia and Sri Lanka that had spanned many decades, with education playing an important role for building strong and lasting links. Austrade Trade Commissioner, Dr Grayson Perry, spoke about growing the educational partnership between the two countries that would contribute to skills development for the Sri Lankan economy and society.
