Australian education and research showcased at science and technology fair
17 Sep 2012
An Australia Pavilion at Thailand’s National Science and Technology Fair held in Bangkok on 17–31 August has showcased Australia’s education and research capabilities to an estimated one million visitors, including Thailand’s royal family.
The pavilion, jointly organised by Austrade and AEI, showcased Australian capabilities in education, scientific research and innovation. It featured prominent Future Unlimited branding, with five interactive displays:
- Australia as a world class research centre
- Australian Nobel Prize winners
- significant Australian innovations
- Endeavour Awards scholarships
- prominent Thai-Australian alumni
A highlight for the team was a visit by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who took particular interest in the Australian Nobel Laureates display.
Two public seminars highlighted Australia’s research capabilities. Dr Nancy Cromer from Flinders University and Professor Stephen Pyne from the University of Wollongong gave presentations on water resources management and health science, respectively.
Participation in the fair, the largest of its kind in the country, is a key part of Austrade’s strategy to raise the profile of Australian education and research capability in Thailand, Australia’s sixth largest source of international students.
