Briefing and welcome in Bangkok for APAIE delegates
02 May 2012
The education teams from Austrade and the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE) at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok organised an in-market briefing and welcome reception for Australian delegates to the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) annual conference, which was held in Bangkok on 5 April 2012.
APAIE is an international non-profit organisation whose goal is to activate and reinforce the internationalisation of higher education in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world, and to engage the professional challenges of individuals in international education. The host country and venue of the annual conference alternates between participants. In 2010, Griffith University (Queensland) was the host, and in 2012 the host was the Medical Faculty of Mahidol University at Bangkok’s Siriraj Hospital.
The 2012 conference was attended by more than 700 delegates from within and outside of the Asia-Pacific region. The exclusive Austrade and DIISRTE briefing and reception at the Shangri-La Hotel on the evening of 5 April 2012 was attended by more than 60 Australians representing universities and other education-related organisations, as well as several Thai education agents.
His Excellency Mr James Wise, the Australian Ambassador to Thailand, delivered a speech to greet the guests, and emphasised the importance of education collaboration between Thailand and Australia. Preceding the reception, Austrade and DIISRTE delivered a briefing on the market environment and the respective roles of the agencies within the Thai market. Austrade also took the opportunity to showcase the Future Unlimited video. The reception was successful as a platform for those involved in Australian education, both from Australia and Thailand, to meet and build networks.
