Expressions of interest sought for 2013 Austrade China Careers Fair
19 Jun 2013
Australian universities are invited to submit an expression of interest to join the 2013 Austrade China Careers Fair (ACCF). The event follows the hugely successful inaugural fair in April 2012, aimed at repositioning Australia as a high quality education provider that delivers job outcomes and career opportunities. The 2013 ACCF will involve career fairs in Australia and China, as well as a careers counsellors study tour.
Event co-organiser Zhaopin.com is one of the largest human resource (HR) service providers in China, with SEEK.com in Australia as its major stakeholder. A concept proposal for the 2013 Careers Fair by Zhaopin.com includes three components:
- Careers Fair in Australia – bringing several well-known Chinese enterprises to hold on-campus careers fairs in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in September 2013.One hosting university in each city will be selected from voluntary nominations to provide venue and logistics support. The fair will be open to all international and domestic university students in those cities.
- Careers Fair in China – to be held in selected Chinese cities in late 2013 (dates and locations to be confirmed). The fair will be open to all Chinese graduates (undergraduate/postgraduate) from participating Australian universities.
- University careers counsellors’ study tour – to be held before the Careers Fair in China, inviting careers counsellors from participating universities to visit well-known enterprises in major Chinese cities to better understand HR needs and establish industry links.
Austrade will launch an official event campaign in the near future, with program details to be based on received expressions of interest.
Australian universities are invited to submit an expression of interest for this opportunity by Friday 5 July 2013. Expressions of interest and enquiries about the ACCF 2013 should be submitted to Ms Emily Zhang, Education Project Manager, Austrade Shanghai.
The 2012 ACCF generated extremely positive responses from participating universities, graduates, companies and the media in China. Held in Shanghai, the event was a multi-layered initiative with two key components:
- an online employment portal at Zhaopin.com for job advertisements and applications
- a careers fair day for graduates to meet Australian and Chinese companies to discuss career opportunities.
Key outcomes from the 2012 event included:
- participation by 15 Australian universities, 43 top Australian and Chinese companies, and 1306 Chinese graduates from the universities registered with the employment portal at Zhaopin.com
- 1200 visitors to the careers fair, primarily graduates coming to Shanghai from all over China and also from Australia
- 455 jobs advertised on the portal during a one-month period, and 3800 job applications submitted by registered graduates
- click rates of 204 251 for the employer portal home page and up to 150 000 for individual companies
- alumni engagement and corporate links by participating universities
- broad national media attention, with 42 media reports in print and social media
- insights into Chinese job market demands to inform strategies on diversifying student interests across a wider range of disciplines
- profiling and demonstrating the value of investing in an Australian education.
