Future Unlimited expands presence in Bangladesh
21 May 2013
A recent Austrade visit to Chittagong to promote Australian education has sparked high levels of Bangladeshi interest for more information. Presentations to universities and schools provided an overview on studying in Australia, key strengths of Australian education and Australia Future Unlimited branding, as part of plans to expand the reach of Australian education to key regional cities in Bangladesh.
Bangladeshi institutions expressed eagerness for more information about higher education in Australia and would welcome visits by Australian institutions. Increasing commercial activity and rising incomes in Chittagong is seeing an increase in the number of students interested in pursuing higher education overseas.
Chittagong is Bangladesh’s second-largest city and commercial capital. The Chittagong Metropolitan Area houses an estimated population of 5.5 million people and is the location of most large corporates. Due to its strategic position at the crossroads of two burgeoning economic communities – South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – Chittagong is one of the fastest growing cities in the world and intends to develop itself as a key regional economic hub between South Asia and East Asia.
Analysis
As an underserviced key metropolitan area in South Asia, Chittagong offers high potential for student recruitment and marketing.
There is strong interest from local government universities to develop opportunities for joint research with Australian partners, with particularly strong interest among quality PhD students to study offshore.
