Future Unlimited showcased at largest-ever International Education Expo
09 Nov 2012
The International Education Expo held in Thailand on 27–28 October attracted 20 000 visitors, with Australia’s Future Unlimited booth boosting awareness about Australian offerings and providing information to Thai students and parents on universities and scholarships.
Organised by the Office of Civil Service Commission (OCSC), the event attracted participation by 15 embassies, 27 Australian institutions and over 250 international exhibitors from all over the world.
Australia’s Future Unlimited booth prominently featured the education brand, drawing in more than 500 Thai students and parents seeking information on Australian universities and the Australian Government’s Endeavour Awards.
Thai students and their parents are becoming increasingly aware of Australian institutions and capabilities. A number of students were interested in pursuing further studies, mostly at master and PhD level, in fields including business administration, education, engineering, dentistry, music, mining, arts, supply chain management and science.
This year, the OCSC will allocate as many as 500 scholarships in different fields of study. Of these, 174 scholarships will be designated for overseas studies, 133 for the development of government civil servants and 193 for training.
According to OCSC statistics at 31 August 2012, Australia ranked sixth as a study destination for Thai students studying under the supervision of the OCSC. The top five countries that Thai students chose for overseas education were:
- USA (28.46 per cent)
- UK (27.74 per cent)
- Japan (8.54 per cent)
- Germany (5.94 per cent)
- China (4.28 per cent).
Overseas scholarships include the King of Thailand’s scholarships, government scholarships and civil training scholarships. Top fields of study include engineering, biology, physics, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, law, economics, social science, and business and management.
Austrade is working with the OCSC to encourage greater awareness about Australian education, aiming to increase Australia’s representation in Thai programs.
