Invitation to join Water Solutions Mission to China

27 Sep 2013

Austrade, together with the Department of Industry and Water Australia, invites Australian water technology and solution providers to join the Australian Water Solutions Mission to China on 2–9 December to develop new business in the industrial provinces of Jiangsu and Guangdong.

Participation in the mission includes being part of the Australian Pavilion at Water Expo China + Water Membrane China 2013 (WEC 2013) that will be held in Beijing from 2–4 December 2013.

The mission will be led by Australia’s Water Supply Advocate, Bob Herbert AM. Program arrangements, including industry seminars, networking events and the Australian Pavilion will be supported by the Australian Department of Industry and Austrade.

This is an opportunity for Australian companies to promote their products and services at one of China’s largest water expos, sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Water Resources. To ensure companies meet with relevant industry and government officials, Austrade and the Department of Industry will host networking events and business matching alongside the show. In Guangzhou and Nanjing, Austrade’s local team will arrange Australian Water Solutions industry seminars, where companies will be able to present their expertise and meet with industry decision-makers and officials in the water management sector, supported by the Australian Government.

Register your interest online by 7 October

Analysis

Opportunities in Jiangsu and Guangdong

Under China’s 12th Five-Year Plan, the Chinese Government has set water resources as a top priority sector for investment. With a long history of manufacturing in electronic equipment, chemicals, and textiles, Jiangsu Province has prioritised the improvement of its water, air and soil quality. During the next five years, Jiangsu Province will invest RMB100 billion on water environment improvement, industrial wastewater treatment and water efficiency improvement. Jiangsu Province has the highest industrial wastewater discharge in the country.

Guangdong Province has had the highest provincial GDP growth for over 23 consecutive years. The Guangdong Government is addressing the environmental impact of this growth by investing RMB180 billion in the water sector during 2011–2015. Priority investment areas include agricultural water efficiency, rural drinking water safety, flood protection, river control, web based intelligent information system, water supply infrastructure, water saving, reservoir water protection and ecological restoration. The total budgeted investment for pollution control alone during 2011–15 is RMB90 billion.

Key opportunities for Australia exist in:

  • water and environment monitoring and testing, including software for data management
  • water related training, education and consultancy
  • waste water and water treatment, including water environment protection
  • water efficiency and saving, including water saving for buildings
