Launch of Future Unlimited video in Malaysia
02 May 2012
The Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, His Excellency Mr Miles Kupa, launched the Future Unlimited video in Malaysia at the Australian education representatives briefing on 12 April 2012. The event was attended by local education agents, university placement centre representatives and offshore regional education offices in Malaysia.
The briefing was hosted by Austrade and supported by the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE) and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). Around 45 representatives attended the event mostly from offices in the Klang Valley. Representatives were pleased that Austrade’s business plan placed an important role on offshore education representatives. Austrade encouraged education representatives to have a more streamlined approach to media advertising and outreach in Malaysia as the market is becoming crowded, with many Australian providers approaching the same Malaysian audience.
DIISRTE provided regulatory updates on the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) and Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS).
DIAC presented information on the student reform visa programs. There are currently 93 000 foreign students in Malaysia, of which more than 20 000 are undertaking an Australian program. The recommendation and implementation of the Knight Review was well received by agents, who feel that it will simplify the application process for a student visa.
