School Open Day program held in Vietnam
22 Jun 2012
The Australia Future Unlimited: School Open Day Program 2012 was held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on 11–14 May, with the participation of 14 Australian state government and independent secondary schools from around Australia. This is an annual program organised by Austrade to provide students and parents with the latest information about studying at Australian schools.
This year saw a new format introduced by hosting the program at gifted secondary school venues, where Australian providers had closer contact with local students and parents. Apart from the traditional face-to-face interviews, Australian teachers also delivered demonstration lessons in English and maths to the Vietnamese students at eight gifted high schools in both cities to showcase the latest Australian teaching and learning methodology. Visiting students and parents also learned more about the Australian ‘experience’ through a series of Australian cultural and sporting activities, with the involvement of Australian allies in the market.
The program, under the Future Unlimited branding, received strong media coverage in Vietnam, raising Australia’s education profile in an increasingly crowded market along with awareness of study opportunities for the school sector.
