Australian export case study
Organisations around the world are facing increasingly strict compliance requirements for information management.
“This is particularly the case for organisations which operate in highly secure environments such as justice, defence and intelligence agencies,” said Tony Walls, CEO Asia Pacific for the Australian ICT company, Objective Corporation.
Established in 1987, Objective Corporation is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX: OCL), and operates from 14 offices in eight countries across the globe. The company specialises in Enterprise Content Management (ECM)* solutions.
These solutions are engineered to meet the stringent security requirements of government departments and large corporations where there are high volumes of unstructured information and complex business requirements.
Objective Corporation has recently engaged with the Singapore Government’s Media Development Authority to provide their world-leading Enterprise Content Management solution.
The MDA – recently formed by a merger of the Singapore Broadcasting Authority, the Singapore Film Commission, and the Films & Publications Department – was created to develop Singapore into a state-of-the-art global media city.
It was established in response to the convergence of different media in Singapore and is responsible for promoting the growth of the media industry and managing content to protect core values and safeguard consumers' interests.
“The Singapore Government was interested in what our solution could do to help manage the enormous amount of content which flows through the Media Development Authority," Mr Walls said.
“We were able to provide MDA a single access point to business critical information.
"It will be a secure, trusted source of all enterprise content and enable users to retrieve information in a timely fashion."
The solution will provide a single, easy to use interface allowing users access to all types of information including electronic documents, emails, business processes, website pages and electronic records of physical objects (CDs, books, videos).
“With Objective, information will now be readily accessible from everyone’s desktop. It will encourage information sharing and enable Media Development Authority to retain corporate knowledge.”
Opening up the market in Singapore
The Singapore Australia Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA), which came into effect in July 2003, has opened up the Singapore Government Procurement market for Australian service companies.
In 2005/06 Austrade helped 449 businesses achieve export business deals in Singapore worth A$410 million. Of these, 137 were new exporters.
Australia has a number of Free Trade Agreements in addition to SAFTA, including a Free Trade Agreement with Thailand (TAFTA), with the United States (AUSFTA), and with New Zealand (ANZCERTA).

* Enterprise content management (ECM) embraces technologies used to capture, manage, store, preserve and deliver content and documents related to organisational processes. ECM tools and strategies allow the management of an organisation’s unstructured information, wherever that information exists.
