Overview
A range of studies attest to the rapid growth in international business in environmental goods and services and clean energy. Research by Roland Berger Strategy Consultants estimates that the global market for environmental products and services was US$1,370 billion (1.37 trillion) in 2008 and will double to US$2,740 billion (2.74 trillion) by 2020. The domestic market in Australia for environmental goods and services was estimated at $22 billion in 2006, with a growth rate of seven per cent a year.
Australian companies operate in all areas of the environment industry, including water treatment and waste water treatment, solid waste management and recycling, air pollution testing, mine site regeneration and land remediation. Australia enjoys a reputation for excellence in the environmental sciences, research and development, and the commercialisation of new and innovative technologies. It has a competitive edge because of its technical expertise, strong technology and science base, and understanding of environmental issues.
