Australian export case study Gekko Systems, the Ballarat-based manufacturer of gravity separation mineral process equipment and systems, has recently designed and installed a high-tech pre-concentration module at the Silver Standard Pirquitas silver, tin and zinc mine high up in the Argentine Andes in Jujuy province. Six Gekko InLine Pressure Jigs in the module increase the throughput of the milling and flotation circuit in the silver mining process, pre-concentrating the ore to allow for a substantial increase in the plant feed rate. The new module achieves significant capital and operating costs savings. Gekko Systems’ highly-specialized machines are used to recover sulphides, copper, silver, tin, tantalum, garnet and diamonds, as well as gold. Applications also exist for coal, mineral sands, magnetite, iron ore recovery and platinum group minerals. “Our clients are often surprised at how technologically advanced Australia is in this area,” said Gekko’s CEO Elizabeth Lewis-Gray. “But we have the products that do the job.” She said that Austrade had been helpful to Gekko Systems in providing assistance at mining conferences and trade shows around the world. “In South America, for example, Austrade Buenos Aires helped connect us with new clients,” Ms Lewis-Gray said. Gekko Systems exports widely around the globe, including to Canada, Kazakhstan, Peru, South Africa and Russia. |
