Portia Maier leads the Australian Government activities in the promotion of trade, investment and education in Canada with a team of business and consular staff in both Toronto and Vancouver.

Portia is a barrister admitted to the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of Queensland. Before joining the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), she practised in several areas of law, including commercial, corporations, banking and finance, insolvency and competition law. Portia also brings extensive international experience in senior executive roles in private banking, investment banking and management consulting with global institutions.

Portia holds a Master of Laws and a Juris Doctor from the University of Queensland, a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of New South Wales. She undertook post-graduate study with Cornell University Law School in Sorbonne, Paris.
