Australia and Italy discuss investment opportunities 4 March 2010 Australian and Italian businesses have discussed investment opportunities during a recent high-level Italian business delegation to Australia. The Australian Parliamentary Secretary for Trade, Anthony Byrne, said that the delegation’s visit was part of a strategy to develop closer trade and investment links between Australia and Italy. Mr Byrne noted that it was important to build on mutual areas of opportunity such as inward and outward investment around the infrastructure and construction sectors. Australia’s Trade Commissioner to Italy, Tim Gauci, said that Australia’s profile has been raised in Europe due to the country’s strong and resilient economy and the need for infrastructure. “Many European countries, including Italy, see Australia an investment destination,” Mr Gauci said. In another development, Macquarie Capital, the corporate advisory section of Australia’s Macquarie Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Italian investment agency, Invitalia, to pro-actively engage in sourcing inward and outward investment opportunities between Italy and Australia.
