US global conglomerate opens office in Australia 21 April 2010 The US global conglomerate, ITT Corporation, has expanded its operations to open an office, ITT Defence Australia Pty Ltd, in Canberra. David Melcher, president of ITT Defense & Information Solutions, said that the corporation’s Australian office will “focus on delivering sophisticated defence products and services to the Australian Defence Force and home security sectors”. “ITT Defence Australia will allow us to be hands-on with the Australian Defence Materiel Organisation, to address and deliver essential solutions to their Defence Force," Mr Melcher said. Headquartered in White Plains, New York, the New York Stock Exchange-listed ITT Corporation is a top ten US defence contractor. The original company – International Telephone & Telegraph – was created in 1920 to build the first worldwide system of interconnected telephone lines. Today, this high-technology and manufacturing company has a workforce of over 40,000 people and operates in the sectors of water and fluids management, and motion and flow control, as well as in defence and security.
