Australian university cites 'Innovation Campus' success
6 August 2009
A New South Wales university campus dedicated to cutting edge research and innovation has produced results after just one year.
The Innovation Campus at the University of Wollongong, south of Sydney, has high-tech infrastructure and links to the University’s leading edge R&D capabilities.
The ambitious centrepiece of this project – the City of Innovation – attracted new business, employment, and international attention as soon as it was opened.
When completed, the Innovation Campus will have 84,000 sqm for research, innovation and office space, 5,000 sqm for retail and services facilities, 8,000 sqm for a hotel and conference centre, and 18,000 sqm for residential accommodation.
The first building at the campus was completed in June last year. Subsequently, two more buildings – for the Australian Institute for Innovative Materials and the Institute for Transnational and Maritime Security – have been completed, and construction has begun on the Digital Media Centre and the Sydney Business School buildings.
In May, the Australian Government announced $45 million in funding for stage two of the Australian Institute for Innovative Materials building. |
