Speakers at high level trade forum confirmed

Speakers for the Trade 2020 opening conference have been confirmed. They include Australia’s Minister for Trade, Simon Crean, and a former US Under Secretary of Commerce, Dr Robert J Shapiro.

The first in a new series of high level forums, Trade 2020 will address current issues facing exporters and investors.

The global financial crisis, the changing nature of trade and the need to respond to the challenge of climate change, mean that Australian business and industry must continually adapt its approach to international engagement to remain competitive.

These forums are also designed to generate ideas and vision for Australia’s trade and investment success in the next decade.

Trade 2020 will open with a conference at the Crown Hotel, Melbourne on Wednesday, 26 August 2009.

Speakers include:

  • Dr Robert J Shapiro - former US Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs and co-founder and Chairperson, Sonecon
  • Chris Richardson - Director of Access Economics
  • Professor Denise Bradley AC - Chair of the 2008 Review of Australian Higher Education 
  • Professor Gary Sampson - Professor of International Trade, Melbourne Business School 
  • Hon. Mark Birrell - Chairman of Infrastructure Partnerships Australia
  • Narelle Kennedy - founding CEO, Australian Business Foundation
  • Phil Ruthven - Founder, IBISWorld 
  • Roger Donnelly - Chief Economist, Export Finance and Insurance Corporation 
  • Dr Terry Cutler - Director, CSIRO 
  • Tim Harcourt - Chief Economist, Austrade
