Australia ranked second in world for quality of life

14 October 2009

The United Nations Development Program’s just published Human Development - Report 2009 has ranked Australia second among 182 countries for quality of life.

Norway topped the list, just ahead of Australia, while the US was in 13th place and the UK was in 21st place.

The UN Report ranks countries on a scale which measures qualities such as life expectancy, educational achievements and income. A country’s educational achievements combine enrolment in primary and secondary schools and universities, as well as adult literary races.

The Report’s author, Dr Jeni Klugman, said that life expectancy in Australia rose by three months and income rose by 4 per cent on a year earlier.
