Osaka Gas invests in Australian wind farm development

16 October 2009

A consortium which includes the Osaka Gas Company, the trading house Marubeni Corporation and the Australian APA Group, has invested in a wind farm under development by AGL Energy Ltd in South Australia.

This is reported to be the first time a Japanese gas company has participated in a wind farm project in Australia.

The wind farm, known as Hallett 4, is situated on the Hallett Hill range 40 kilometres from Burra in South Australia and is currently under construction. When completed, it will have 63 wind turbines, each with 2,100 kilowatts capacity, and a combined capacity of over 132,000 kilowatts. Operation is scheduled to begin in the middle of 2011.

The greenhouse gas emission rights and the electricity generated by the Hallett 4 Wind Farm will be sold to AGL.
