Construction commenced on Australia’s largest ever resources project 7 December 2009 Construction on Australia’s largest ever resources project – Gorgon Gas – has commenced. The $43 billion Gorgon Gas project, located on Barrow Island in north Western Australia, will also be the world’s largest for Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS). At the construction commencement ceremony, the Australian Minister for Resources and Energy, Martin Ferguson, said that Gorgon will help underpin Australia’s economic and energy security and generate economic growth, jobs, and prosperity for decades to come. The Australian Government is working in partnership with Chevron, Shell, and ExxonMobil to bring the massive Gorgon fields into commercial development. Mr Ferguson said that almost $150 billion of Gorgon Gas has already been sold to buyers in India, China, South Korea and Japan. He added that global demand for LNG is forecast to triple by 2030 as developed and developing nations look to increase use of the lower-emission transition fuel. More information |
