Data Alert: Global Significance of Australia’s Infrastructure Funds

8 June 2010

Australia’s infrastructure funds industry is one of the largest in the world, with total capital raised conservatively estimated to be in excess of A$60 billion. In terms of assets under management, five of the world’s 15 largest infrastructure fund managers are Australian-owned companies. Australia’s infrastructure funds industry is underpinned by the nation’s world-leading pension fund market. Australia is widely recognised as a global leader and innovator in infrastructure financing and asset management. The evolution of infrastructure as a separate asset class in Australia, as distinct from private equity or real estate, is evidenced by the growing number of infrastructure funds offered by Australian fund managers. This is reflected also in the depth of expertise developed by infrastructure participants.
