US cloud computing company expands in Australia 13 August 2010 The Silicon Valley-based cloud computing company, VMware, has expanded its Australian operations by investing in a second stand-alone office. VMware has been operational in Australia for the past five years and the new sales and marketing office is located in Melbourne. A global leader in cloud computing, VMware provides virtualisation solutions for x86 based servers and desktops, with software that allows a single server to do the work of ten or more machines by creating multiple virtual computers that run simultaneously on the machine. Earlier this year, the State of Victoria signed a two year contract with VMware to provide unlimited VMware Infrastructure (VI) to 14 departments making VMware the standard virtualization platform across the state. Listed on the New York stock exchange, VMware posted revenues of US$2 billion in 2009, and currently has 170,000 customers and 25,000 partners. More information |
