Swedish furniture icon invests in more Australian outlets 22 September 2010 IKEA, the iconic Swedish furniture retailer and franchisor, plans to invest $600 million on six more outlets around Australia over the next decade. The new Australian stores will be in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Two of the stores – in Tempe, south-west Sydney, and Springvale, in south-east Melbourne – are nearing completion and will open this year. IKEA International sells Scandinavian-designed home furnishings and has hundreds of stores around the world. The company’s first outlet opened in Älmhult, Sweden, in 1958, and the first IKEA store in Australia opened at Artarmon, Sydney, in 1975. More information |
